Voting presence – As many as 53.52% of voters cast ballots for presidential elections by 9 p.m.

About 53.52 percent of the Romanians with voting rights came to the polls by 9 p.m. to choose the country\'s president, the highest numbers being reported in the counties of Ilfov and Teleorman, while the lowest in Satu Mare and Covasna, said the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC).

Voting presence was of 51.50 percent in the urban area and of 56.30 percent in the rural one.

The highest presence was reported in the counties of Ilfov (64.12 percent) and Teleorman (63.08 percent), while the lowest turnouts were seen in the counties of Satu Mare (41.65 percent) and Covasna (42.38 percent).

In Bucharest, 50.09 percent of those with voting rights headed to the polls until 9 p.m. Most of the electors were from the sector 1, while the sector 5 counted the fewest voters.

The number of those who cast their ballots at the 3,359 special voting sections countrywide rose to 479,196, of which 21,824 people went to Ilfov county and 21,436 in the county of Olt.

As for the national referendum, 50.16 percent of the voters answered the two questions on the Parliament until 9 p.m. About 48.14 percent were from the urban area and 52.94 percent from the rural one, according to BEC.

The referendum needed a voting presence of more than 50 percent to be validated.
