The trade union federations representing the public servants, police officers, teachers and the health staff will call a general strike on October 5, unsatisfied with the single salary bill.

According to the union leaders, some 800,000 public servants will take part at the strike. The strike will be preceded by a setting out at the Parliament on September 15.

The aim of the protest is to prevent the government to take responsibility on the current single salary bill and to renegotiate a single salary law for the employees working in the public sector that respects the principles agreed few months ago, which blocks lay-offs and impeeds unpaid leaves this year, said the president of education union FSLI, Aurel Cornea.

He also mentioned the protests will continue and that teachers could not participate at the organization of the presidential elections to take place on November 22.
