The Village Museum, the Romanian Peasant Museum, the Art Collections Museum and the Natural History Museum will not participate in the “Museum Night Fever” event this year to take place on May 16 – 17, according to the representatives of the institutions.

The National Village Museum Dimitrie Gusti decided not to take part in the event anymore because the lighting it can provide during night time is insufficient and the surveillance is difficult, which could lead to incidents.

“We have chosen to develop an alternative program, “Museum Morning”, which will take place until night fall,” declared the head of the Village Museum, Paula Popoiu.

The museum will offer workshops with craftsmen from Bucharest and the surroundings, a temporary exhibition, team-buildings and several folklore groups from different regions of Romania. The entrance will be free of charge.

The Romanian Peasant Museum, the National History Museum “Grigore Antipa” and the Art Collections Museum will also keep their gates closed on the night of the event due to restoration works.

The first edition of the “Museum Night Fever” took place on May 14 2005 at the initiative of the Culture and Communications Ministry in France. The event proved to be highly popular and drew in more and more visitors each year, eager for a one-night, free of charge museum spree. Some 12 museums participated at the event in Bucharest in 2008.
