Movies directed by Corneliu Porumboiu and Cristian Mungiu to compete for a Cannes award
The movies “Police, adjective” (“Politist, adjectiv”) directed by Corneliu Porumboiu and “Memories from the golden age” (“Amintiri din epoca de aur”) directed by Cristian Mungiu will compete for Un Certain Regard Cannes award, informs www.allocine.fr.
Porumboiu's movie will be officially launched in June. The plot is centered on a policeman that loses his trust in the law. It won a competition organized by the National Cinematography Center in the June-July 2008 session and received almost 1.5 million lei.
Corneliu Porumboiu won the second place at the Cinefondation section of the Cannes Festival in 2004, with the short film “Trip to the city”.
“Memories from the golden age” by Cristian Mungiu will be launched on May 29, at the opening of the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF). It is a comedy and a merger between five different approaches of the 80s in communist Romania.
Mungiu won in 2007 a Palm d'or at the Cannes Festival for the film “4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days”.
The jury for the Un Certain Regard category will be presided by Isabelle Huppert and will be formed by Asia Argento, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Lee Chang-Dong, James Gray, Hanif Kureishi, Shu Oi and Robin Wright Penn.
