As many as 26 new cases of swine flu confirmed in Romania in just 24 hours

The total number of swine flu cases reached 581 in Romania, after 26 people caught the AH1N1 virus since Monday, according to dr. Adrian Streinu-Cercel, who resigned from the government secretary within the Health Ministry position on Tuesday. Most of the new cases were reported in Timisoara and Filiasi.

Eight people from Timisoara were hospitalized with swine flu Tuesday morning, of which four children. In Filiasi, eight people caught the AH1N1 virus, but five of them are receiving home treatment.

The first swine flu contamination in Romania occurred on May 23, on a young woman who had returned from the United States.

Adrian Streinu-Cercel was government secretary of the Health Ministry for less than a month. He is the director of the “Matei Bals” Infectious Disease Institute and one of the most reputed virologists in Romania.
